It had been a very long time since I broke up with my husband. Well, he didn't break up with me. He killed me. Now I'm a ghost, haunting a locked hotel room with no number. I cannot begin to tell you how boring and lonely this existence is. Plus my skin and clothes are now a deathly gray. I cannot tell you how much I would welcome someone slipping some fake tan under the door.
It didn't help that the receptionist would tell people that this room was a storeroom and that it was out of bounds. So, I never even got people trying to visit me. Thanks, a lot, receptionist at this hotel. Didn't they ever teach you to respect your elders?
I spent the night as I spent most other nights; Banging my against the wall gently (I didn't want to hurt myself) and then resting it against the wall for a while, staying absolutely still, just to change things up a bit. Yup. This was a wild party. Somebody stop me. I'm out of control.
...*sigh*
I heard a sound near the keyhole, and turned sharply, but the man behind it retreated. It was definitely man, judging my the heaviness of the footsteps. A man had come to see me!
A blush spread across my face, or it would have, if my face was capable of color. I was instantly smitten. I began to imagine scenarios in my head of him holding me in his big, strong arms, and I would feel safe. Then he would lean down and kiss the nape of my neck, sending a shiver down my spine, and I'd giggle.
It gave me butterflies just thinking about it. I wandered over to the door and looked out the keyhole. I waited there for the whole night, wondering what I was going to say that wouldn't be embarrassing or off-putting. Or scary. I was a ghost, after all, and people were scared of ghosts.
The next morning, he looked through the keyhole again, and my heart stopped. I could see right into his beautuful, blue eye. We were so close together nothing but a few millimeters of wood separating our faces. My mind froze up. I was too shell-shocked to speak.
Then I heard him mutter "Nothing but red. They must have blocked the keyhole with something red." and walk away. I had completely forgotten. My eyes were a haunting, solid red. I should have said something! I blew it!
